The One in Five Campaign

A campaign to encourage, empower and increase political participation amongst disabled people in Scotland.

Scotland has witnessed an incredible upsurge in political enthusiasm over recent years with improved equality being a shared desire regardless of which way a person votes or political party they support.  As ONE IN FIVE people of working age in Scotland is disabled, we aspire to have political participation and representation that reflects our society.

This long term aspiration is ambitious; it will take time and effort but we believe, that, as a first step, if political parties and organisations ensure meetings and materials are accessible including at local and national levels, our aspiration is achievable. If you agree with us and share our aspiration for Politics to look more like the people it represents, then sign our charter and help us get there!

The SSP were delighted to unanimously support the ONE IN FIVE campaign. Politics must be more accessible for people with disabilities and long term health conditions.
Sandra Webster - The Scottish Socialist Party
The One in Five campaign is a fantastic cause. It’s important to encourage more disabled people to get involved in local and national politics. This improves public attitudes and increases political participation within all sections of society.
